CREATIVE SELF - PROJECT
for this project we are exploring creative ways to visually interpret our project titled ‘the self’ and ‘the human condition’ this is a very broad subject which covers many different themes and there are lots of ways to interpret it. I can use this project to explore my own physicality and appearance, my inner self and emotions, my wants needs aspirations and goals. I could use this project to try and explore my own character, personality. The way others see me and the way I see myself.
There are lots of different ways of doing this the most obvious would be portraiture to do a portrait of myself, I think a start from there and see where that goes.
I also want to explore more abstract and unique ideas, want to start with portraiture. Then adapt from that and move on to something completely different.
My project I am hoping to include photography, drawing, painting, sculpting and maybe film, there are certain aspects of myself that I would like to focus on
My Identity- What makes me who I am, my personality, hobbies and interests
Daily routines & rituals- how I choose to fill my time and the jobs, tasks, responsibility’s of Daily Life, the responsibilities of being an adult and a mother.
What makes me happy and why.
For my research on portraiture I have decided to research, Picasso & his self portraits as he has done a lot of self portraits over the years and all are very different, I also want so see if there is a connection between the way he paints himself at certain points in his life to what was happening around him in his life at the time.
I have also decided to look at Orlan and his self portraits witch he calls ‘self Hybridizations’ as I have not researched Orlan before and I think it would be interesting, ive had a quick look threw a few of these ‘self Hybridizations’ they are something different and im looking forward to researching them and finding out more.
I would also like to take a look at Polly & Emma Borlands exabition at Canberra Glassworks as these explore more the emotions and situations of the self, than the actual physicality and visual appearance, which is where I am hoping to lean towards in this project.
I would also like to incorporate some of my reborn doll work that have been doing over the holidays into this project. I am hoping to create one of these dolls to represent my inner child or instincts, what comes instinctive to me originating from childhood, such as my love of painting and drawing, and being able to have fun and be silly and relate to my own children.
First Id like to create the doll as a sculpture and as a piece of work on its own. And then use the doll to create additional artworks using other methods such as painting, film and photography.
