For this test sample I created a teardrop vase in ceramics using a mould that I had already previously used before, I poured slip into the mould then left it for half an hour and poured it out to create the vase shape, I then cut the window out of the front of the vase so that you could see inside.

Inside the father made to tiny holes whether silicone placentae would go. To create the placentae used offcuts of silicone and shape them into a placenta like blob, around the circumference of the placentae shape a coat along trail of silicone to be the umbilical cord.

For the baby “Benji”I first moulded him out of clay then poured into silicone using a plaster mould, pouring him did not go exactly to plan and they have more details about that on the next page, once he was poured and fixed up I stuck toothpick into his belly button halfway, and halfway into the umbilical cord that I had created.

Once the vase was fired I attached the placenta and umbilical cord and the baby “Benji” to the vase. I’m very happy with the outcome of this test sample, it is about half of the size that the final womb vase will be, also the final womb vase will be coloured correctly to match the colour scheme and tones the plinth. The baby placenta and umbilical cord will also be painted, with model skin in veining for a more realistic effect.

Although I used a teardrop bars mauled to create this vase, for the final vase I will be using a coiling technique. This project is a combination of all the skills I have learnt over the year in my art practice however I still want to experiment and learn a couple more for this last project. That is where the coiling comes in, and also the mod rock.
